Support Lamp this Holiday Season
This holiday season, as Lamp celebrates a quarter century of dedicated service and looks forward to its next 25 years, we ask that you make a remarkable, lasting difference in the lives of homeless and formerly homeless men and women by making a contribution to Lamp Community and the people it serves.
Conventional wisdom had long said that homeless people with disabilities had to “straighten up” before they could obtain housing or help. Lamp’s founders understood that those struggling to survive on the streets and hampered by severe mental illness and other disabilities could not access treatment, let alone make dramatic changes in their lives. When Lamp opened its doors in 1985, it immediately served as a safe place where individuals could address the issues that led to their homelessness, and where they could improve their health, develop self-sufficiency, and become a part of their community.
We know without question that Lamp’s programming works, delivering drastic reductions in hospitalization and incarceration. And we know that the cost of providing housing and services is far, far less than the cost of allowing people to ricochet through the system without a coordinated plan for their recovery.
